The Scoop on "Proof"

Because I had to do that toe shot in the beverage of my choice that was at least 40 proof, a former colleague asked what exactly “proof” means and suggested it might be a good blog topic.

So…I haven’t done *too* much research here (actually, I just Googled it…), but Wikipedia says:

Alcoholic proof is a measure of how much ethanol is in an alcoholic beverage, and is approximately twice the percentage of alcohol by volume (ABV, the unit that is commonly used at percent).”

(For the record, I opted for Yukon Jack at the bidding of my friend at the Downtown Hotel in Dawson City.)
