I’ve been talking about pitching a story about this for ages!

Food: The Way We Eat – Spawn Fishing

Well, not exactly. I’ve wanted to write something about fishing for Copper River salmon ever since I heard my mom talk about tying yourself to a tree in the river. I even interviewed a few guys who do it every year. One of them, however, said I had to do it if I wanted to write about it…and therein lies the problem. Even though I *do* have free room and board up there in the Great White North, a real opportunity has just never presented itself to *actually* tie myself to a tree…and so I’ve never pursued this story idea.

(Although perhaps this is still something I should pursue out of loyalty to Alaska and its Copper River salmon since the story focuses so heavily on Yukon kings?? Some of you may recall the time I spent in Dawson City recently…which is on the Yukon River…and both my mother and I ate Yukon kings while we were there…and I promise the toe story is coming soon!)
